Austin, Texas – September 26, 2007 – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission and the Window Covering Safety Council jointly declared
October as National Window Covering Safety Month. YourBlinds has
prepared an increased focus for anyone calling in to their customer
service hotline to explain the hazards and solutions to ensure child
safety.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that since
1991, CPSC has received reports of more than 174 strangulation deaths
involving cords and chains on window coverings. 152 deaths involved the
outer-pull cords, which raise and lower the blind. 22 deaths involved
the inner-cords, which run through the window blind slats.
“It is very important to spread the word to all parents and grandparents
that accidents caused by window coverings are avoidable with the new
innovations available,” said Linda Lee, CEO, YourBlinds. “We intend to

receive. This is an important initiative we believe strongly in.”
In recent years, most window blinds and shades have been redesigned to
remove the hazards associated with cords and hanging chains. The CPSC
highly recommends repairing, removing or replacing window coverings,
corded shades, blinds and draperies manufactured before 2001.
“Replacing the old window coverings need not be an expensive exercise.
There are numerous, cost effective options available today.” said Lee.
